The first official pictures from the new ‘Tomb Raider’ film have been released.
The franchise’s protagonist, archaeologist Lara Croft is played by Alicia Vikander.
Warner Bros announces that Lara Croft’s origin story has been rebooted – so forget everything you know from the previous Angelina Jolie films.
In the new film, Lara Croft is a 21-year-old college student in search of her father, whose last known destination is a mythical island in Japan.
“When I was asked to take on this role I got really excited—Lara Croft is a truly iconic character,” Vikander told Vanity Fair. “I think people can identify with her for lots of different reasons, but for me I very much see her as a model for many young women… It’s a lot of fun trying to get into Lara’s head and the challenge of getting to grips with such a physical role is an element of this project that I find an absolute thrill.”
Directed by Roar Uthaug, this film also features stars like Daniel Wu, Dominic West and Walton Goggins.
“As an origin story, this movie will introduce Lara as a young woman who hasn’t yet found her way and her place in the world; a young woman with great spirit and potential,” Uthaug told GQ. “We follow her struggles and her journey toward becoming the person she was meant to be and earning the role of ‘Tomb Raider.’”
The film’s initial release is scheduled on March 16, 2018.
