Your Netflix subscription is going to become a little less affordable starting July, in accordance with the introduction of the GST “Netflix tax”.
Subscribers will be charged up to $3 extra per month starting June 29. The single-user basic plan fee is increased from $8.99 to $9.99, the two-user standard plan from $11.99 to $13.99 and the four-user premium from $14.99 to $17.99.
A Netflix spokesperson confirmed to media outlets that the rise in pricing is driven by the new GST: “Since launching in Australia in 2015, we have not changed pricing. In light of the upcoming GST increase, we will be rolling out updated plans and pricing starting June 28 in Australia.”
The new GST to digital content such as online video, games, apps and e-books applies starting July 1.
