As an activist, what do you do after you make your own story book? Create another book, of course.
You may have heard of the two-volume feminist bedtime story book Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls, which features real women with great achievements throughout history. Now founders and authors Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo are back with their second project: an activity book.
Titled I Am a Rebel Girl: A Journal to Start Revolutions, the book was fully funded through Kickstarter within only eight hours after the campaign went live in September. It is filled with a hundred activities for girls to try, including writing to their local representatives, planning a march and planning out a career path.
“We designed I Am a Rebel Girl to inspire the next generation of girls to act on their dreams and lead the revolution of our time,” said Cavallo and Favilli.
“If Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls inspired the girls in your life through the daring deeds of many incredible women, I Am a Rebel Girl will help them train their rebel spirit, embrace their own potential with joy and determination and be agents of changes.
“Ultimately we wanted the journal to lead to action… Each activity was designed to address a particular status quo or standard that they can redefine for themselves.”
The activity journal is sold for US$20 on the Kickstarter page, with estimated shipping in November.
The crowdfunding campaign for the book and a second season of Rebel Girls podcast has raised over US$170,000, well over the US$100,000 goal. The podcast Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls was nominated at the 2018 People’s Choice Podcast Awards, and was recognised as one of Time magazine’s Best 50 Shows to Listen to Right Now.
